Follow-up

How soon is too soon to follow up?

October 14, 2026 ยท The GrowthSeeded team

Most people don't skip a follow-up because they are lazy. They skip it because they are not sure. Is it too soon? Has it been too long? While you wonder, the days pass and the moment is gone.

Here is a simple way to stop wondering.

Pick the rhythm before you start

Decide the gaps in advance, when you feel calm. Doing it in the moment is when everything feels awkward. A gentle rhythm looks like this: a light touch first, a connection request a day or two later, and then a few days between each message.

Start with something that is not an ask

Like or comment on something they posted. It shows you are paying attention, and it costs them nothing to receive.

Give before you ask

When you do write, share something useful. An article they would enjoy, a helpful introduction, a short note about something they care about. A message that gives is easier to answer than one that asks.

Stop when they reply

A reply ends the sequence and starts a conversation. Do not send the next scheduled message into a real conversation. Mark it, and write the next message by hand.

Close the door gently

If you hear nothing, one short, polite closing note is enough. No guilt, and no "just bumping this to the top of your inbox." It leaves the door open and lets you move on.

What it adds up to

You do not need perfect timing. You need a rhythm you trust, so that "too soon" and "too long" stop being questions you have to answer in the moment.

GrowthSeeded's starting sequence follows this pattern: a post comment on day 1, a connection request on day 2 or 3, a message when they accept, a value-add message 5 days later, and a soft close 6 days after that. You can change every step.
